Nurse FAQs

Anchor 1

Nurses help us say "YES" to children with special needs!

Camp Woodrich wants to say YES to as many camper families as possible and our camp nurses are vital to making that a reality. We have had campers with Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Epilepsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay, DMDD, and many others. We love our campers that are non-verbal, wheelchair or walker users, neurodivergent, blind, and those with sensory issues. We want these children to experience the magic of summer camp, but we also want to make sure our nurses are comfortable offering care to this community.

Important information:

Our nurses get the final say in whether a camper can be dropped off or if a parent needs to stay. You will be given a complete roster at least a week before camp begins so you can decide your comfortable level.

  • You are welcome to come to an all-family event or shadow an experienced Camp Woodrich nurse to see if this would be a good fit for you.

  • Nurses need to be comfortable with:

    • Cognitive disabilities (GDD, Autism, Down Syndrome, etc.) as a higher percentage of our campers are in this population. Caring for these campers can look like emotional or sensory regulation, redirection, and looking for triggers based on parental guidance.

    • General First Aid care (It's camp! Cuts and bruises happen!)

    • Administering meds, including EpiPens as needed

    • Toileting ages 3-18 (with assistance)

  • Can be helpful to be comfortable with:

    • G-tube feeding

    • Seizures (and identifying preceding triggers)

  • Requirements and recommendations:

    • LPN, RN, and NP are all welcome! The biggest need is a person who is comfortable with special needs and care for disabilities.

    • Active License or Active Retired License required (copy of current license required)

    • Recommended personal liability insurance
